Coffee Table 2 by Scrapiture

Range Rover V8 Engine Coffee Table / Wine Rack

'Scrapiture' is a growing collection of alternative furniture and accessories made out of various automotive components. After several years of people saying that I should sell my work, this coffee table was the first from the Scraptiure collection to be put up for sale. The table is formed from a Range-Rover 3.5 litre V8 engine block, with 4 pistons from the same engine supporting the glass. The table also doubles as a wine rack, housing upto 8 bottles in it's bores. 4 suckers on top of the pistons hold the glass in place, and felt pads are also provided so as not to scratch any hard floor. The head faces and various edges have been highly polished to contrast with the rest of the block which is coated in 6 layers of clear lacquer. The glass is brand new 7mm thick coffee table glass toughened to comply to BS6206. Being made from aluminium, the table is surprisingly light and one person can easily carry the block.

Obviously after spending 15 years in an engine bay, it took some cleaning and polishing up to get the block into this condition. Almost a whole day was spent stripping down the engine. After bead blasting, over 10 hours of hand cleaning, polishing and lacquering was applied, and finally a day spent to put it together into what you see here. The engine was in perfectly serviceable condition when I took it apart, and was originally going to be used in a hot-rod.

My first table is currently pride of place in my lounge and been a great talking point for the last year or so. This is the first time that I have made a piece available sale.
